Manufacturing hot rolled square steel bars involves passing steel through rollers to shape the metal to a specific thickness at temperatures exceeding steel's recrystallization temperature. When steel is above the recrystallization temperature, it can be easily shaped and formed. This allows the steel to be drastically reduced in thickness with only single pass. Compared to cold rolled steel, hot rolled steel is not only easier to work with during and after the rolling process, it is also cheaper to produce.

Square steel bars will change shape and size during the cooling process, thus resulting in slightly rounded edges and corners. They are also characterized by a rough surface finish due to extreme temperature cooling process. Hot rolled square bars maintain excellent mechanical properties and is easy to fabricate using conventional methods, including hot forming and mild cold forming.
